Tree Pruning in Fort Worth & DFW

Health-driven pruning by certified arborists — so the trees shading your home today are still standing strong decades from now.

Pruning is preventive medicine for trees. Deadwood, diseased tissue, and weak branch unions don't fix themselves — they wait for the next ice event or straight-line wind to come down, usually onto whatever is underneath. DFW Tree Guys prunes trees across Fort Worth and the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex with one goal: take out what threatens the tree so everything that remains grows stronger.

This is where certified arborist knowledge earns its keep. Every species responds differently to the saw, and North Texas adds its own rules — oak wilt timing on oaks, sanitized tools between trees, cuts placed where the tree can actually compartmentalize. Our crews prune to those standards on every job, whether it's a young pecan getting its structure set or a hundred-year-old live oak that needs careful deadwooding.

You'll get straight recommendations, too. If a tree needs a light structural prune and nothing more, that's the quote you'll get — we don't sell removals that good pruning could prevent.

What's Included

  • Deadwood removal throughout the canopy
  • Cutting out diseased, cracked, and decay-weakened limbs
  • Structural pruning that corrects weak unions and co-dominant stems
  • Young-tree training that prevents expensive problems later
  • Oak-safe timing and sanitized equipment to protect against oak wilt
  • Full haul-off and cleanup included in every quote

How It Works

  1. Assess the tree. An arborist-guided look at structure, health, and history — and an honest read on what pruning can and can't fix.
  2. Prioritize the cuts. Hazards first, health second, aesthetics third. You approve the plan and the price before a saw starts.
  3. Prune to standard. Correct cuts at the branch collar, right-sized reductions, nothing flush and nothing stubbed.
  4. Clean up completely. Debris chipped and hauled the same day, work area raked and blown.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is pruning different from trimming?

Pruning is about the tree's health and structure — removing dead, diseased, and poorly attached growth. Trimming is about appearance and clearance. They complement each other, and we typically handle both in one visit.

When should oaks be pruned in North Texas?

The dormant, cooler months are safest. Fresh oak cuts in the warm season can attract the beetles that spread oak wilt, so we schedule oak pruning accordingly and sanitize equipment between trees.

Can pruning save a declining tree?

Often, if the decline is caught early. Removing diseased and dead material can stop problems from spreading and redirect the tree's energy. We'll tell you honestly whether a tree is a save or a lost cause.

How much of a canopy can you remove at once?

Generally no more than about a quarter of live growth in a season — more than that stresses the tree. Anyone eager to take half your canopy in one visit is someone to keep away from your trees.

Do you prune young trees?

Yes, and it's the best money in tree care. A few well-placed cuts while a tree is young sets up strong structure and avoids four-figure corrections twenty years later.

“Richard and his two-man crew demonstrated commitment and skill in removing, pruning, trimming, and cleaning up despite aggressive bee attacks. Regardless of the grueling day, they remained pleasant, professional, funny, and accommodating. Due to continuous bee attacks, Richard hauled off numerous garbage bags of debris and remaining tree limbs after the bumblebees were removed.
